Community Rallies in Search for Missing Inglewood Senior with Dementia
Inglewood residents have mobilized in a community-wide effort to locate 61-year-old Robert Johnson, who has been missing since Monday afternoon. Johnson, who suffers from diabetes and early-stage dementia, was last seen near his home in the Morningside Park neighborhood around 2 PM.
The Inglewood Police Department issued a Silver Alert Tuesday morning after family members reported that Johnson failed to return home. According to his daughter, Michelle Johnson, this is extremely unusual behavior for her father, who follows a consistent daily routine.
“My father has never gone missing before,” Michelle Johnson said during yesterday’s press conference at Inglewood Police headquarters. “He’s very predictable in his habits and always lets someone know where he’s going. We’re extremely concerned because he needs his medication.”
Johnson is described as an African American male, approximately 5’10” tall, weighing 175 pounds, with salt-and-pepper hair and a gray beard. He was last seen wearing a blue plaid button-up shirt, khaki pants, and white sneakers. He may appear confused or disoriented due to his medical condition.
The community response has been swift and comprehensive. Over 100 volunteers gathered Wednesday morning at Faithful Central Bible Church to organize search parties, distribute flyers, and canvas neighborhoods throughout Inglewood. Local businesses have offered their support by posting missing person flyers and checking security camera footage.
“This is what Inglewood is all about—coming together when one of our neighbors needs help,” said Pastor Michael Fisher, who helped coordinate the volunteer efforts. “We’re working systematically to cover every area where Mr. Johnson might have wandered.”
The Inglewood Police Department has dedicated significant resources to the search, including patrol officers specifically assigned to look for Johnson and detectives reviewing security camera footage from businesses along his usual walking routes.
“We’re grateful for the community’s assistance in this search,” said an Inglewood Police Department spokesperson. “The first 72 hours are critical in missing person cases, especially when the individual has medical needs.”
A command center has been established at Faithful Central Bible Church (3500 W. Manchester Blvd.), where volunteers can sign up to join search parties or offer other assistance. Community members are asked to check their yards, garages, and any security camera footage they may have from Monday afternoon onward.
Anyone with information about Robert Johnson’s whereabouts is urged to contact the Inglewood Police Department immediately at (310) 412-5240 or call 911. Updates on the search effort will be posted on the Inglewood Police Department’s social media accounts.
