Three people, including two teenagers, were shot at a bus stop in South Los Angeles on Monday afternoon, raising safety concerns for public transportation users across neighboring communities, including Inglewood and Compton.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, officers responded to reports of gunfire at the intersection of Vermont Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard around 4:10 p.m. The location, near Exposition Park, is a major transit hub used by many South LA residents, including those commuting between Inglewood and central Los Angeles.

Two 16-year-old boys were transported to a nearby hospital in stable condition, while a woman in her 50s was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. All three victims were at the bus stop when the shooting occurred.

Police are searching for two male suspects, described as between 15 and 18 years old, who fled the scene after the shooting. No arrests had been made as of Monday evening.

This incident follows several other shootings in South LA over the past week, highlighting ongoing concerns about public safety that affect communities throughout the South Los Angeles region. For Inglewood and Compton residents who rely on public transportation, particularly students who use bus routes through this area, the incident underscores the importance of remaining vigilant while traveling.

Local community leaders from Inglewood have previously called for increased security measures at major transit hubs that serve multiple communities. These include better lighting, more frequent law enforcement patrols, and expanded youth intervention programs to address violence before it occurs.

The intersection where the shooting occurred is approximately three miles northeast of downtown Inglewood and serves as a connection point for several bus routes that link Inglewood, South LA, and downtown Los Angeles.

Police have not yet released information about a possible motive for the shooting, but authorities are investigating whether the incident may be gang-related.
