The Los Angeles Clippers delivered a commanding performance in the first-ever playoff game at Inglewood’s Intuit Dome, defeating the Denver Nuggets 117-83 on Thursday night to take a 2-1 lead in their first-round series.

Kawhi Leonard led the way with 21 points and 11 rebounds, while James Harden and Norman Powell each contributed 20 points in what became a statement victory for the Clippers in their new Inglewood home.

“It was crackin’, it was loud. Just how I expected it to be,” Harden said of the enthusiastic Inglewood crowd. “That’s one of the reasons why we jumped out to a huge lead.”

After splitting the first two games in Denver—both decided by a combined five points—the Clippers dominated from the second quarter onward. The team’s defense tightened significantly as they outscored the Nuggets 23-2 during a crucial stretch spanning the end of the first quarter and beginning of the second.

The Intuit Dome, which officially opened earlier this season, provided an electric atmosphere for its first playoff contest. Clippers superfans in “The Wall” section nearest to Denver’s bench wore horse hats mocking Nuggets star Nikola Jokić’s well-known affection for horses, adding to the home-court advantage.

Jokić still managed to record his second triple-double of the series with 23 points, 13 rebounds, and 13 assists. Jamal Murray also scored 23 points for Denver, but the Nuggets struggled from three-point range, hitting just seven compared to the Clippers’ 18.

Clippers billionaire owner and Inglewood development partner Steve Ballmer was visibly excited throughout the game, animatedly clapping and pumping his fist from his seat near the team’s bench as his vision of bringing playoff basketball to Inglewood became reality.

“Everybody contributed. It was a great game for us all,” Leonard said after the win. “Denver’s a great team. They’ve been here before. We got to still stay focused and play together and come out with a great mindset Saturday.”

Game 4 will take place Saturday at the Intuit Dome, giving Inglewood residents another opportunity to witness playoff basketball in their city. The game will be crucial as the Clippers look to take a commanding 3-1 series lead before returning to Denver.

The Clippers’ victory marks another milestone for Inglewood’s transformation into a premier sports destination, with both the Intuit Dome and neighboring SoFi Stadium hosting major professional sports events.
