10 Injured as Car Strikes Soccer Fans Outside SoFi Stadium; Teen in Critical Condition
At least 10 people were injured Saturday night when a vehicle plowed into a crowd of soccer fans leaving SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, with two victims in critical condition including a 14-year-old girl.
The crash occurred around 10:30 p.m. near Hollywood Park Casino on Century Boulevard, as the vehicle traveling westbound drove up a curb and struck the group of pedestrians who had just attended a soccer match at the stadium, according to Inglewood Mayor James Butts.
Among the injured, two victims remain in critical condition, including a teenage girl. The other eight victims were hospitalized with injuries ranging from minor to moderate severity. Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene to transport the injured to area hospitals.
The driver, who was also hospitalized following the incident, told authorities that he had fallen asleep behind the wheel, Mayor Butts reported. The admission raises concerns about driver fatigue and safety around major events at SoFi Stadium, where thousands of fans regularly attend sporting events and concerts.
The incident highlights ongoing pedestrian safety challenges around Inglewood’s entertainment district, particularly during high-attendance events when large crowds navigate the area’s streets and sidewalks. Century Boulevard, a major thoroughfare connecting the stadium complex to surrounding neighborhoods, sees heavy pedestrian traffic during events.
This crash marks a serious safety incident in an area that has seen significant development and increased foot traffic since SoFi Stadium opened in 2020. The stadium complex, which includes the YouTube Theater and is near the Hollywood Park Casino, regularly hosts events that draw tens of thousands of visitors to Inglewood.
Local authorities are expected to review safety protocols and pedestrian infrastructure around the entertainment district to prevent similar incidents. The investigation into the crash continues as the community rallies around the injured victims and their families.
