Chargers Fall to Colts 38-24 at SoFi Stadium as Offensive Line Injuries Mount in Week 7 Loss
The Los Angeles Chargers dropped to 4-3 on the season after a disappointing 38-24 home loss to the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, as mounting offensive line injuries proved costly in the Week 7 matchup.
Despite quarterback Justin Herbert’s efforts to rally the team, the Chargers couldn’t overcome protection breakdowns that led to three sacks and consistent pressure throughout the afternoon. The loss snapped a two-game winning streak and raised concerns about depth along the offensive line.
Herbert finished 28-of-41 for 312 yards with two touchdown passes, but the Colts’ defensive pressure forced two critical interceptions that led directly to 14 Indianapolis points. The Chargers’ inability to protect their franchise quarterback became the story of the game.
Center Bradley Bozeman, who has faced criticism this season, struggled in pass protection as the Colts’ defensive front dominated the line of scrimmage. Multiple Chargers offensive linemen left the game with injuries, forcing backup players into action and disrupting continuity.
Rookie tight end Oronde Gadsden II, who was named to the Week 7 standout rookies list, caught seven passes for 94 yards and a touchdown in another strong performance. The undrafted free agent continues to emerge as a reliable target for Herbert.
Wide receiver Keenan Allen recorded eight receptions for 107 yards, surpassing 1,000 career receptions during the game. Allen reached the milestone in just 159 games, the fastest in NFL history, providing one of the few highlights in an otherwise frustrating afternoon for Chargers fans.
The Chargers’ defense struggled to contain Colts running back Jonathan Taylor, who rushed for 143 yards and two touchdowns. Indianapolis controlled the clock for over 35 minutes, keeping the Chargers’ offense off the field during critical stretches.
The loss comes ahead of a crucial Thursday Night Football showdown when the Chargers host the Minnesota Vikings at SoFi Stadium on October 23. The short week gives the battered offensive line little time to recover before facing another tough defensive front.
Head coach Brandon Staley addressed the offensive line concerns in his postgame press conference. “We’ve got to find solutions quickly,” Staley said. “Thursday night games don’t give you much time to heal or make adjustments.”
The Chargers remain in playoff contention at 4-3, but the team’s Super Bowl aspirations may depend on getting healthy along the offensive line during the season’s second half.
