Firefighters Battle Two-Alarm Blaze on Century Boulevard, Two Crew Members Hospitalized
Approximately 90 firefighters responded to a major two-alarm commercial structure fire in Inglewood Friday morning, with thick black smoke visible across the community as crews worked to contain the blaze on Century Boulevard.
The fire was reported at 10:29 a.m. in the 4300 block of West Century Boulevard and escalated to a second alarm shortly after 11 a.m., according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The intensity of the fire led to a partial roof collapse, complicating suppression efforts.
Firefighters attacked the flames from multiple positions, including from atop the neighboring Topper Motel, which was evacuated as a precaution. Aerial footage showed crews battling the fire from both elevated positions and ground level as smoke billowed into the sky.
Two firefighters sustained minor injuries during the operation and were transported to a local hospital for treatment. Their conditions were described as non-life-threatening.
The commercial building sustained significant damage, though firefighters were able to prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent structures. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
Century Boulevard is a major thoroughfare connecting Inglewood to LAX airport, and the incident caused temporary traffic disruptions in the area. The Topper Motel guests were allowed to return once the fire was fully contained.
The aggressive response by nearly 90 firefighters demonstrated the seriousness of the situation and the commitment to protecting surrounding businesses and residents in the densely developed corridor near the airport.
Inglewood residents are reminded to report fires immediately by calling 911 and to stay clear of active fire scenes to allow emergency responders room to work safely.
