The Inglewood High School Sentinels baseball team will host crosstown rivals Leuzinger Olympians on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m., hoping to reverse a trend that has seen them lose nine of their last ten meetings against the Olympians since 2017.

The Sentinels enter the matchup with momentum, riding a three-game winning streak after defeating Morningside 11-7 on Thursday. The victory improved Inglewood’s season record to 3-9, while Leuzinger comes into the contest at 4-3 following a 13-2 loss to Culver City.

Inglewood’s recent offensive surge has been key to their turnaround. After averaging just 4.6 hits per game earlier in the season, the Sentinels have significantly improved their offensive production with an average of 9.8 hits over their last 15 games, including 14 hits in Thursday’s win over Morningside.

Senior Wesley Jackson has been a standout performer for the Sentinels, setting a new career high with three runs scored against Morningside while going 3-for-4 at the plate and stealing a base. Teammate Omar Robles also had an impressive showing, going 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, and a stolen base.

“Our offensive approach has completely transformed over the past few weeks,” said an Inglewood High baseball supporter. “The players are making better contact and showing more confidence at the plate.”

For Leuzinger, this game represents an opportunity to continue their dominance over Inglewood and bounce back from their recent loss to Culver City, which marked their fourth consecutive defeat against the Centaurs.

History certainly favors the visitors, with Leuzinger winning the teams’ last meeting in April 2024 by a commanding score of 25-3. However, the Sentinels will have home-field advantage this time around, which could prove significant as they look to upset their rivals.

The baseball matchup continues a storied athletic rivalry between the two neighboring schools, whose competition spans multiple sports and has been a fixture in the local community for decades.

Community members and students from both schools are encouraged to attend Tuesday’s game to support these local student-athletes as they showcase their talents and competitive spirit.
