Inglewood Launches $250,000 Wildfire Recovery Fund to Aid Affected Residents
The City of Inglewood has established a new Wildfire Recovery Fund to provide housing support and essential resources to residents impacted by recent wildfires. The initiative, announced yesterday at a special city council meeting, aims to assist Inglewood families who have been displaced or experienced property damage due to fires in the Greater Los Angeles area.
According to city officials, the fund will offer financial assistance for temporary housing, home repairs, and replacement of essential personal items. It will prioritize low-income residents, seniors, and families with children who lack adequate insurance coverage or other means of support during the recovery process.
“While Inglewood itself was spared from direct wildfire damage, many of our residents have family members in affected areas who have sought refuge in our community,” said Mayor James T. Butts during the announcement. “Others commute to jobs in areas that were impacted. This fund represents our commitment to supporting all members of our community during this challenging time.”
The Wildfire Recovery Fund has been seeded with $250,000 from the city’s emergency reserve, with additional contributions coming from local businesses and community organizations. The Inglewood Chamber of Commerce has pledged to organize a fundraising drive among local businesses to further support the initiative.
For Inglewood residents seeking assistance, applications for the fund will be available starting April 10 through the City’s Housing Assistance Office. Applicants will need to provide documentation of wildfire impact, which can include evacuation orders, proof of residence in affected areas, property damage assessments, or employment at businesses closed due to fire damage.
The city has established three levels of assistance based on need: emergency housing vouchers for temporary accommodations, direct financial assistance of up to $2,500 for essential items and home repairs, and connection to additional county and state resources for long-term recovery support.
“We recognize that recovery extends beyond immediate needs,” explained a representative from the Inglewood Housing Department. “Our case managers will work with affected residents to develop individualized recovery plans and connect them with all available resources at the local, county, and state levels.”
Community organizations throughout Inglewood have mobilized to supplement the city’s efforts. Several local churches are collecting donations of clothing, furniture, and household items, while the Inglewood Family Resource Center has established a special hotline to provide counseling services and recovery information.
Residents interested in contributing to the Wildfire Recovery Fund can make donations through the city’s website or at any Inglewood city facility.
