Inglewood’s Operation Clean Sweep Returns This Spring for Free Bulky Item Disposal
Inglewood residents will soon have the opportunity to dispose of unwanted large items free of charge as the city’s popular Operation Clean Sweep program returns this spring. The semi-annual bulky item collection event will take place throughout April and May, providing a convenient solution for residents looking to remove furniture, appliances, and other oversized items from their homes.
Operation Clean Sweep, organized by the City of Inglewood’s Public Works Department, aims to keep neighborhoods clean and prevent illegal dumping by offering this specialized collection service at no additional cost to residents. The program has been a staple of the city’s waste management strategy for over a decade.
“This program is one of our most requested city services,” said a representative from Inglewood’s Public Works Department. “It helps residents properly dispose of items that don’t fit in regular trash bins and supports our broader efforts to maintain clean, attractive neighborhoods throughout Inglewood.”
The collection schedule is organized by zones, with specific pickup dates assigned to different neighborhoods. Residents can find their designated collection day by visiting the City of Inglewood’s website or calling the Public Works Department. Items should be placed curbside by 7 AM on the scheduled collection day.
Acceptable items for collection include furniture (sofas, chairs, mattresses), appliances (refrigerators, stoves, washing machines), electronic waste (computers, televisions), and other bulky household items. The city reminds residents that certain materials, including construction debris, hazardous waste, and automotive parts, will not be accepted through this program.
For items containing refrigerants, such as refrigerators and air conditioners, residents must schedule a special pickup by calling the city’s customer service line at least 48 hours before their collection date to ensure proper handling of these environmentally sensitive materials.
In addition to the curbside collection, the city will host two special drop-off events at Vincent Park on April 20 and May 18 from 8 AM to 2 PM, where residents can bring bulky items, electronic waste, and a limited amount of hazardous materials like paint and batteries. Proof of Inglewood residency will be required at these events.
“Operation Clean Sweep not only helps keep our city beautiful but also promotes environmental responsibility by ensuring these items are disposed of or recycled properly,” the Public Works representative added. “We encourage all residents to take advantage of this free service.”
Inglewood residents seeking more information about Operation Clean Sweep can visit the city’s official website at cityofinglewood.org or call the Public Works Department’s customer service line at (310) 412-5333 during regular business hours.
