LA Health Food Franchises Expand in Marina del Rey, Signal Potential for Inglewood Growth
Two growing Los Angeles-based food franchises—Paradise Bowls and Wake and Late—are expanding with new locations at the Waterside shopping center in Marina del Rey, signaling a continued trend of health-conscious dining options in Los Angeles County that could eventually reach Inglewood as the city’s retail landscape evolves.
Paradise Bowls, which specializes in smoothie and acai bowls made with organic ingredients, will open its newest location this summer, according to signage at the Marina del Rey shopping center. The chain has built a following in beach communities like Manhattan Beach and Hermosa Beach, emphasizing vegan options and health-focused menu items.
Wake and Late, a breakfast burrito franchise that launched in 2018, is also joining the tenant mix at Waterside. The chain has gained popularity for its simple menu featuring pasture-raised eggs, organic avocado, and quality ingredients without seed oils. Its expansion now includes locations in Downtown LA, Pasadena, West Hollywood, Highland Park, and soon Santa Monica.
For Inglewood residents and commercial property stakeholders, these expansions reflect broader dining trends that could influence future retail development in the city, particularly as new business districts emerge around SoFi Stadium and Intuit Dome.
“As Inglewood continues to develop its commercial corridors, we’re seeing increased interest from health-conscious food franchises that have built successful operations in other parts of Los Angeles,” said a local commercial real estate consultant familiar with Inglewood’s retail market. “The growing economic activity around our entertainment district is attracting attention from food concepts that might not have considered Inglewood previously.”
Both franchises represent the type of quick-service, health-oriented dining options that often accompany retail development near sports and entertainment venues. With Inglewood’s transformation into a sports and entertainment destination, similar concepts could potentially target the city in future expansion plans.
Paradise Bowls markets itself as a place to “embrace your inner Gaucho” and “escape to fresh, flavorful living,” featuring menu items like “Coconut Breeze” and “Peach Bum” bowls made with tropical fruits, granola, and honey. The company also offers plant-based smoothies and wellness-themed items.
Wake and Late has distinguished itself with breakfast burritos containing tater tots, alongside bagels, whipped spreads, and housemade organic potato chips. Its commitment to organic coffee and tea and quality ingredients has helped the brand expand from its original Downtown LA location.
While neither franchise has announced plans for Inglewood locations, the city’s Chamber of Commerce has noted increasing inquiries from food and beverage operators looking to establish a presence near Inglewood’s entertainment district.
“The development around SoFi Stadium and the upcoming Intuit Dome is creating opportunities for new dining options that serve both residents
