Eight Injured After Customer Drives Vehicle Into Inglewood CarMax Following Dispute
Eight people were injured when a customer deliberately drove an SUV into the CarMax dealership on South La Cienega Boulevard following what officials described as a “business dispute” on Saturday afternoon.
According to witnesses and local authorities, the incident occurred just after 2 p.m. at the CarMax location near the intersection of Manchester Avenue. The driver, whose identity has not been released, was reportedly upset about the appraisal value offered for his vehicle.
“We suddenly saw a fight breaking out. It was really loud. Everyone was worried, and security tried to stop the guy,” said witness Sim Wang, who was inside the showroom when the incident occurred.
Video footage circulating on social media shows a silver Subaru backing into the building, causing significant damage to the storefront. The vehicle can be seen pivoting in the lobby area before driving out through another section of the building.
Los Angeles County Fire Department officials reported that two people were critically injured in the incident, while six others sustained minor injuries. All eight victims are currently in stable condition.
Another witness, Mitchell Marshall, observed the confrontation from outside the dealership.
“I saw him arguing… then he backed up, made a big U-turn, and rammed it not once, but twice,” Marshall recounted. “I heard a big boom the first time. The second time was crunching… It was totally unnecessary, whatever was going on in there.”
In a statement, CarMax expressed concern for those affected: “This afternoon, a customer drove through our Inglewood, California store, hitting and injuring several employees and customers who are receiving medical care at this time. This individual was a customer and was arrested by the police. The safety of our employees, community and customers is our top priority. We’re deeply saddened by this event and our hearts go out to everyone impacted.”
Inglewood Police apprehended the suspect approximately one mile from the scene. Charges are pending as the investigation continues.
The CarMax showroom has since been boarded up and cleaned. Community members with information about the incident are encouraged to contact the Inglewood Police Department.
