The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Sunday afternoon at a beauty supply store in Compton, leaving a 42-year-old man dead after what deputies describe as a disturbance inside the business.
The incident took place at Pink Beauty Supply on the 1300 block of East Alondra Boulevard. According to investigators, the man was causing a disturbance inside the store when a female customer shot him. The woman remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.
Deputies responded to reports of a shooting and found the victim with gunshot wounds. Despite medical attention, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau has taken over the investigation to determine the circumstances that led to the shooting and whether it constitutes self-defense or another justification under California law.
Witnesses reported that the situation inside the store had escalated before the shooting occurred. Detectives are interviewing multiple witnesses and reviewing any available security camera footage from the business and surrounding area.
The shooting highlights ongoing concerns about public safety in commercial areas and the legal complexities surrounding self-defense claims in California. Under state law, individuals have the right to defend themselves when facing imminent threat of harm, but each case is evaluated based on specific circumstances.
