Mother and Daughter Killed in Compton Drive-By Shooting

A mother and daughter were tragically killed Tuesday evening in what authorities describe as a drive-by shooting at a Compton intersection, prompting an urgent investigation by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The shooting occurred shortly after 7 p.m. at the intersection of Caldwell Street and Central Avenue. According to sheriff’s deputies who responded to the scene, one victim was found in the street west of the intersection, while the second victim was discovered in a vehicle on the east side. Both women had suffered gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene despite emergency response efforts by deputies and Compton Fire Department personnel.

Investigators believe the victims were stopped at a traffic signal in their vehicle when another vehicle pulled alongside them and opened fire. The suspect vehicle then fled southbound on Central Avenue, according to sheriff’s officials.

“This kind of senseless violence tears at the very fabric of our community,” said Compton Mayor Emma Davidson. “We’re working closely with the Sheriff’s Department to ensure those responsible are quickly brought to justice.”

The identities of the victims have not yet been released, pending notification of family members.

This incident marks the fourth homicide in Compton this year and comes amid ongoing community efforts to reduce gun violence in the area.

Community safety advocates are planning a vigil for the victims tomorrow evening at 6 p.m. at the Compton Community Center. Crisis counselors will be available for residents affected by this tragedy.
