SoFi Stadium to Host 2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup Opening Match
Inglewood’s SoFi Stadium will take center stage in international soccer this summer as it hosts the opening match of the 2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup on June 14, organizers announced Monday.
The prestigious tournament, which features national teams from North America, Central America, and the Caribbean, will bring world-class soccer to Inglewood’s premier venue, offering local residents a rare opportunity to witness the international competition in person.
While CONCACAF announced the 14 venues for the tournament last September, specific match locations have not been revealed beyond the opener at SoFi Stadium and the championship game, which will be held on July 6 in Houston. Notably, no venues on the U.S. East Coast will host matches during this tournament.
The tournament is likely to be missing several top players because FIFA has given priority to the Club World Cup, which runs from June 14 through July 13, creating a scheduling conflict for elite players who would typically participate in both events.
For Inglewood and Compton soccer enthusiasts, the Gold Cup represents a significant opportunity to see international competition up close. Mexico has historically dominated the tournament with nine Gold Cup victories, including the most recent championship in 2023. The United States has won seven titles, most recently in 2021, while Canada claimed victory once in 2000.
The selection of SoFi Stadium for the tournament opener further cements Inglewood’s growing reputation as a premier sports and entertainment destination. The $5.5 billion venue, which opened in 2020, has already hosted numerous high-profile events including Super Bowl LVI in 2022 and has become a centerpiece of the community’s economic revitalization.
Local businesses, particularly restaurants and hotels near the Hollywood Park complex, are expected to benefit from the influx of soccer fans attending the match. Previous international sporting events at SoFi Stadium have generated significant economic activity for surrounding neighborhoods.
The tournament draw, which will determine which national teams will compete in the opener at SoFi Stadium, is scheduled for April 10. Ticket information and specific kickoff times are expected to be announced following the draw.
